               Eric Hobsbawm was born into a Jewish family in 1927 to an Austrian mother British Father.

          When he was born, they were living in Alexandria. Soon after, they moved to Austria. Following his parents’ death, he moved to Germany to live with his aunt who adopted him and his sister.
